hmm. i started this thing months ago but forgot i had it until recently. took a few tries until i could get the password right. :p i told you i can't get the hang of this. i still have my little notebook that i scribble in every day but i think i'm not online enough anymore to keep this going. anyway, enough of my lame babble. :)
so i watched ladies' figure skating at the 2002 winter olympics last night, arguably the most highly watched event of the entire game. i'm watching and sarah hughes is doing well.. she's from not too far from where i grew up so her accent is annoying me. and then sasha cohen, who i think has great potential baubles a bit and doesn't do too well. then a couple of the "threats" don't do well. they're out of the way. up next is michelle kwan. i see the fear in her eyes and i just FEEL for her. i know how it feels to have the asian parent syndrome. her entire family probably harping at her night and day "do you know how much money we've spent on your training? do you know how hard we've worked to see you come this far? you're going to come home with the gold, aren't you? why did you only win four world titles and not six?" it's tough.. first generation asian parents put a lot of pressure on you to be the best that no one can be. and if they don't, you feel guilty. even when they've stopped actually saying things to make you feel guilty, you do anyway. it's ingrained at this point already. as if that wasn't enough, michelle had the entire world giving her pressure. right before her performance the camera zooms in on her and the commentator says "there's michelle kwan getting ready to win the gold medal!" then another shot, "what must michelle kwan be thinking right now?" shut up already!! let the poor girl skate. she fell and world shrieked. she didn't do her best and it was impossible to with the entire world on her shoulders. i've been watching her grow up like she's my little sister and i just wanted to give her a big hug.
then the weird scoring process. i still don't understand it. i read some explanations and i don't get it. what happened? no one addressed the strange thing that happened. and today i hear the russian committee is none too happy.. they are looking for a second gold medal to be awarded. as if the pairs skating thing wasn't ridiculous enough. they shouldn't have given out the second gold and we wouldn't be here in a mess with russians and koreans now. that little girl jamie showed the worst sportsmanship i have ever seen in my life, btw! plus, she needs some anti-perspirant!
last but not least. is apolo anton ohno the cutest olympian ever?
